Tommaso Maggio - Contemporary Dharma Artist

Tommaso Maggio, Italian Artist;
PhD on Arts X Education

I am Tommaso, an artist with a PhD in Alternative Arts Education from the University of Plymouth (UK). I delve into the realm of interwoven realities by crafting a virtual canvas. My hands not only shape but also capture the essence of meditation, creating flat surfaces that reflect the transformative power of this practice. Each artwork is a tribute, crafted with the intention of sharing positive vibrations with family, friends, and acquaintances.

As an Italian artist in Asia, local culture deeply shapes my work. Over the past decade, I’ve immersed myself in both local and international art scenes, enriched by my PhD studies with Roy Ascott. A pivotal project was a contemporary theatrical performance for the Wellcome Trust (UK), which redefined my view of the human body as a medium. This led me to integrate the physical and social body into my art.

Meditation became central to my creative process. I wake up at 3:30 am and meditate by drawing. Recently, my series was exhibited in Shanghai China and at Duke Contemporary Art Gallery in Bangkok, receiving great feedback. This inspired workshops like ‘True Perception: Meditative Awareness as a Gateway to Artistic Expression’ with a Shambhala meditation master.

My latest addition: a fashion collection born from over two hundred ninety-nine vibrant illustrations created during meditation. These pieces showcase the profound connection between mindfulness and creativity, reflecting my journey through inner peace and well-being.
